Following our 1935 Derby Bentley came this formidable dreadnought leviathan of exquisite engineering and design: all other transports paled in its gaze.
It’s 6 cylinder 6.1/4 ltr OHC engine and epicyclic gearbox were a great attraction in this decision to purchase, but the evocative nostalgic design of the 1920s made this Supercar of its era a must: our magic carpet to circumnavigate the Earth.
It was built when roads were tracks, when metals like lead, bronze & Duraluminium were cheap and plentiful and petrol was 8d(Lsd) per gallon(51p in today’s money)! It was therefore big, heavy and greedy of fuel giving 10mpg at a comfortable 45mph, though it would do 73mph, and only 6 mpg in the hill country!
It has become our transport to any country that will keep the spell, that will be charmed by its antiquity and will help, if needed, with a smile rather than an huff: and one country more than any other, India, has welcomed this road nonagenarian with affection on numerous occasions, which we intend until it’s Century is up.
